On Friday, 27th September 2024, WOSAD held a successful Mbeya manure-making training at Tangatanga Primary School, Phazi Section, in Luwerezi EPA, Mzimba District. The training, part of the ongoing Agroecology project, equipped 60 women farmers with valuable skills to boost sustainable farming practices and improve agricultural productivity.
Facilitated by experts from the Mzimba District Council’s Agriculture Department, Benjamin Mtika and Timothy Banda, the session introduced the women to Mbeya fertilizer—a cost-effective and environmentally friendly alternative that promotes soil health and higher crop yields. By learning these techniques, the women gained not only knowledge but the confidence to implement sustainable farming solutions in their communities.
The Agroecology project, funded by the Lukalazi Development Foundation, aims to promote sustainable agriculture and enhance food security for women in rural areas. As one of the participants, Magret Ndhlovu, shared with excitement, “We are happy because this training will help mitigate hunger through higher crop production. I plan to use this manure in my garden and fields during the rainy season.”
Through initiatives like this, WOSAD is working towards empowering women and promoting sustainable, resilient agricultural practices that will have a long-term impact on food security and community development.
