As part of its mission to empower women in Mzimba District, on Thursday, 26th September 2024, WOSAD introduced itself and its Agroecology Project to the Mzimba Agriculture Executive Committee (DAEC), with key stakeholders in the agriculture sector present. During the meeting, WOSAD outlined its goals, operational areas, and ongoing projects, focusing on the first phase of the Agroecology initiative.
In the first year of the project, WOSAD aims to reach 120 women across three Traditional Authorities (T/As): Mabulabo, Kampingo-Sibande, and M’mbelwa. The project interventions include training women in agroecology techniques such as manure-making, distributing seeds, and providing fruit-tree seedlings to support afforestation efforts.
The DAEC, represented by its Chair, Mr. Black Kamwaza, warmly welcomed WOSAD to the district and encouraged active participation in activities such as field-agriculture demonstration events. He commended WOSAD for empowering women and elevating their voices in the agricultural sector. WOSAD, in turn, pledged to collaborate closely with local government structures, extension workers, and lead farmers to ensure the project’s success.
This initiative is funded by the Lukalazi Development Foundation, supporting WOSAD’s efforts to promote sustainable agriculture and community development.
